Have you actually wondered wherever cigars had been first created? It's extensively believed that cigars had been very first created in Spain. But before cigars grew to become all of the rage in Europe, tobacco was needed to create them. Tobacco is indigenous to the Americas, where native peoples have created it for countless years. The origins with the word tobacco by itself are still suspect, even though many believe it is merely a corruption of the word Tobago, which may be the identify of a Caribbean island. Nevertheless other people believe it originates from the word Tabasco, a region (and now state) in Mexico.

The very first tobacco plantation within the United states was set up in Virginia in 1612. More tobacco plantations adopted in Maryland quickly following. Even though tobacco grew to become a well-liked crop, it was only smoked in pipes. The cigar wasn't released towards the United states until the late 18th century. Israel Putnam, an army common who experienced served in the Revolutionary War, is credited with introducing the cigar towards the United states. He had traveled to Cuba following the Groundbreaking War and came back with a box of Cuban cigars. Their popularity quickly spread, and quickly enough cigar factories were set up within the area of Harford, Connecticut, wherever General Putnam resided.

In Europe, cigar production and consumption did not accomplish widespread recognition till after the Peninsula War in the early 19th century.
